Mid 19th Century Cast Iron Lion form Doorstop, cast at Fitz Roy Iron Works, Mittagong in the mid 19th century. Very good provenance - believed to have been owned by the well known Australiana author and collector, Marjorie Graham (see typed and handwritten inscription to rear). A significant piece of local history.

Believed to be one of only 50 that were cast at the Fitz Roy Iron Works in Mittagong in 1864 and also believed to be the first lions cast from Australian iron ore. The remains of the Fitz Roy Iron Works can be inspected underneath the Mittagong Market Place Shopping Centre.
