World War I Brass Cornet mounted on an oak stand with a dedication plaque:

-- CORNET --, Used by the 12th Battalion, K.O.Y.L.I., in France during the war 1914/18., Lieut. H.G. Meek  

(KOYLI stands for Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry.)

From the Estate of the late Irene Hope Meek, of "Whare-Tau", Sutton Forest Rd, Exeter, NSW. Irene Hope Meek was the daughter of Sir Joseph Meek, a chairman of the Lever & Kitchen Soap Company.  Ms Meek is credited as introducing the Brownie association to Australia and remained their patron until her death in 1992. This cornet and the house contents were auctioned by Alison McSweeney on 20th June, 1993.
