Fine quality original George II Mahogany Drop Side Dining Table, with a nicely figured solid mahogany top of oval shape when opened and with a thumb moulded edge. The table is supported by four carved shaped cabriole legs with proud acanthus leaf carving and terminating with ball and claw feet. Two of the opposing legs are swung in a gateleg action to support the top when open.
Probably refinished many years ago, and now with a lovely warm mahogany colour. Provenance - ex "Cairnton", 76 Victoria Rd, Belleview Hill, Sydney, purchased with a number of other items that featured in the Burdekin House Antiques Exhibition in Sydney in 1929. Width 118cm, depth 44cm (when both sides dropped), length 142cm (when both sides extended).
