Antique Colonial Australian Cedar Chest Of Drawers
** SOLD **
A fine Colonial Australian Cedar Chest of five Drawers, featuring architectural styling with split spiral turned columns supporting 2 cantilevered upper drawers, standing on turned feet. The turning on this chest is particularly unusual and very skilfully done, most likely by a cabinetmaker of Scottish origin.
This graduated 5 drawer chest is similar to the one in the lead photo for the chapter on furniture written by Kevin Fahy in the book "First Fleet to Federation Australian Antiques" pages 18 & 19, published 1977 and is also similar to the piece featured on pages 64 & 65 of "Australian Colonial Furniture" by John Buttsworth, published 1987.
All drawers work smoothly. All drawer runners have been repaired to our usual high standards.
