Large Australian Antique Cedar Bookcase by HT Jones
** SOLD **
Large 19th Century Australian Cedar Bookcase by HT Jones of Parramatta, the upper section with 3 adjustable shelves enclosed by 2 doors with brass wire grille doors and the lower section with 1 shelf enclosed by 2 smaller brass wire grille doors. Both the upper and the lower right hand side doors bear paper HT Jones labels (pictured). Also bearing a Government Inventory stamp for 1887 to upper RHS of bookcase.
Full cedar construction, very good quality. The brass grille doors are an unusual feature, seldom found on 19th century Australian furniture, that make this piece compatible with an Australian farmhouse look. (Brass grilles are more frequently found on Georgian and French furniture.) Somewhat similar to another HT Jones cedar bookcase featured on page 207 of "Memories" by Graham Cornall (a book documenting the Lord McAlpine Collection of early Australian furniture).
