Unusual Antique Australian Cedar Bookcase
** SOLD **
19th Century Australian Cedar 2 Height Bookcase, the upper and lower sections featuring double arched panel doors with carved detail and resting on a plinth base. An interesting feature of this bookcase is the replication of the panelling to the sides of the bookcase. Unusually, it also features a dummy frieze drawer which is also replicated to each side. The lower doors are flanked by carved corbels applied to the rounded corners. These details suggest a possible Germanic influence. This is a unique design for a cedar bookcase - one that I have not seen before in almost 40 years in the antique trade.
Very good 19th century finish with good colour and patina. Three adjustable shelves to upper section, pine secondary timber.
