Pair of Early 19th Century Regency Period Sheffield Plate Vegetable Warming Dishes, with decorative lids featuring gadrooned edges, and removable handles enabling the lids to be used as additional serving dishes, standing on bun feet.
Very good quality.
Sheffield plate is different to electroplated silver. It involves the application, by hand, of a very thin sheet of silver to a base metal (usually copper). It is an earlier process that was largely superceded by electroplating in the mid 19th century. Sheffield plate is generally considered to be more desirable because of this.
