19th Century Australian Cedar 4 Door Breakfront Bookcase with Flame Cedar Door Panels & Crossbanding to Pediment, Centre Section and Base.

Good Crisp Carving, Original Finish with Great Colour and Patina. Adjustable Shelves to Top Section & Lower Cupboards. An almost identical Breakfront Bookcase is featured on page 184 of “Australian Furniture Pictorial History and Dictionary 1788 – 1938” by Fahy & Simpson. We feel certain that this bookcase is also from the workshop of John Hill Jnr, one of Australia’s foremost cabinetmakers of the 19th Century.

A very significant piece in Australian historical terms. Few bookcases of this size & quality were made in Australia in the 19th century.
